GOST standard on mineral resources terminology comes into force

The Russian national standard GOST R 59071-2020 “Environmental protection. Subsurface resources. Terms and definitions" comes into force from From April 1, 2021.
The development of the standard is aimed at the development of appropriate terms and definitions and is carried out on the basis of a detailed analysis of domestic and foreign regulatory legal framework in the field of protection of subsoil and subsoil use.
The new standard establishes terms and definitions in the spheres of relations arising from business entities in the course of environmental protection in the process of implementing measures for the protection, as well as subsequent protection of subsurface mineral resources, disposal of waste from mining and associated processing industries, specific mineral resources (brine estuaries and lakes, peat, sapropel, etc.), groundwater, including associated water (water extracted from the subsoil together with hydrocarbon raw materials), and waters used by subsoil users for their own production and technological needs.
