New Russian standard for surface water quality

On September 1, the Russian national standard GOST R 59025-2020 “Water quality. Research method based on analyte markers in regulation and normalization of anthropogenic load on surface waters" will come into force. The purpose of this standard is to establish a unified terminology and tools for environmental regulation of water use, including, along with the standards for the most important interdependent elements of water management activities, target indicators and a method for studying the characteristics of actual anthropogenic load.
The standard is recommended to be used by environmental services in the preparation of all types of documentation related to the substantiation of the conditions for water use, the use of surface water bodies in assessing the negative impact when justifying harm, damage from discharges of waste water, storm water, polluted groundwater generated as a result of economic activities, as well as when adjusting schemes for the integrated use and protection of water bodies.
