      Description
This standard defines the requirements for immunity to ripple at the d.c. input power port of electrical, electronic and radioelectronic means and equipment (hereinafter referred to technical means (TM)) and the relevant test methods and also a common and reproducible basis for testing, in a laboratory of technical means when subjected to ripple voltages and overlaid on d.c. power supply sources. This standard is applicable to low-voltage d.c. power ports of technical means supplied by external rectifier systems, or batteries which are being charged. This standard defines: – test voltage waveform; – range of test levels; – test generator; – test set-up; – test procedure. The requirements described hereafter apply to technical means and systems. They also apply to modules or subsystems whenever the equipment under test (EUT) rated power is greater than the test generator capacity specified in clause 6. This standard does not apply to equipment connected to battery charger systems incorporating switch mode converters. This standard does not specify the requirements to be applied to particular technical means or systems. Its main aim is to give a general basic reference to all interested IEC product committees. These product committees (or manufacturers of technical means) remain responsible for the appropriate choice of the test and the severity level to be applied to the technical means. Dedicated test procedures are in use for testing specific categories of electrical or electronic equipment, e.g. equipment connected to d.c. supply network of telephone switching centres; the related product committees should evaluate the relevance and applicability of the test procedure specified in this standard. The test severity levels, taking into account the specific conditions of the electromagnetic environment during the operation of the technical mean and the criteria for the quality of operation of the technical mean during electromagnetic compatibility testing, shall be established in the state standards for groups of technical means and TM of a specific type. The requirements of this standard are mandatory. The content of IEC 61000-4-17-99 standard is typed in upright font; the additional requirements for IEC 61000-4-17 standard reflecting the needs of the national economy are given in italics.
